Welcome to English I!  You probably have many questions about what this English class will involve.  Hopefully, this course overview and other aspects of this web page will help.

This class is English I Communications for the Technologies. That means that the intent of the class is to prepare you for the business world or a two-year college that you may some day attend. The course involves an eclectic mix of literature and various writing assignments. By the end of the semester you will be able to do the following:

bulletAnalyze literary works and discuss them in an intelligent way
bulletIdentify literary devices and use them effectively in your own writing
bulletUse the writing process to communicate ideas effectively about literature and life
bulletResearch a topic and communicate your findings in an effective oral presentation that utilizes visual aids and the use of technology
bulletWork effectively within groups
bulletMake creative and effective oral presentations individually and with a team

We will do many class activities, but some of the reading will be done AT HOME. If you do not complete your reading assignment, the class may suffer because they will be unable to complete the planned activities of the day. Also, your grade will suffer because I give many daily quizzes on what you have read. I expect that you have a high level of personal responsibility and that you intend to do all of the course work, or you would not be taking the class.

I like to help all of my students, so if you are struggling or having individual problems with the material or the course, please see me.  Also, if you are struggling in my class or you are an ESL student, these websites might offer additional help (Click here).
